| Abstract | Introduction: Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) triggers a major inflammatory response. This study evaluated postoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) kinetics and their association with complications. Methods: Retrospective study of adults admitted to ICU after cardiac surgery with CPB in 2023. CRP was measured preoperatively, at 24h, 48h, and postoperative day 7 (POD7). Results: Among 88 patients, CRP peaked at 216.9 mg/L at 48h. Complications occurred in 55.7% of cases. Only POD7 CRP remained significantly higher in complicated patients (80.2 vs 62.8 mg/L; p≈0.03). Conclusion: Persistent elevation of CRP on POD7 is associated with postoperative complications and may improve risk stratification after cardiac surgery. |
