Abstract A comprehensive study on the synthesis and structural characterization of gold(I) thiolate complexes supported by bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (dppe) is presented. Reactions of [dppm(AuCl)₂] and [dppe(AuCl)₂] with heteroaromatic thiols afford discrete dinuclear, tetranuclear, and polymeric gold(I) assemblies. All complexes were characterized by (1H) and (31P) NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X‑ray diffraction. The structures reveal nearly linear coordination geometries at gold(I) centers and pronounced Au···Au interactions (3.07–3.25 Å), consistent with aurophilic attraction. Ligand steric and electronic effects dictate nuclearity and supramolecular aggregation. These results establish diphosphine-supported gold(I) thiolates as versatile building blocks for polynuclear gold architectures.
