| Abstract | This article delves into the Quranic narrative of the creation of the universe, offering a comprehensive exploration of its theological, cosmological, and philosophical dimensions. It highlights the distinctive role assigned to humankind as vicegerents (khalīfah) on earth, emphasizing the responsibility and moral agency that accompany this elevated status. The study traces the stages of cosmic creation, beginning with the primordial event often interpreted in modern scientific discourse as the Big Bang, and follows the subsequent development of galaxies, stars, and planetary systems. Particular attention is given to the harmony between Quranic descriptions and contemporary scientific understandings, underscoring the interplay between revelation and reason. Beyond the physical cosmos, the article examines the creation of human beings, focusing on the infusion of the soul (rūḥ) as a defining element that distinguishes humanity from other forms of life. It further reflects on the purpose of human existence as articulated in the Quran, which encompasses worship, stewardship of the earth, and the pursuit of moral and spiritual growth. By integrating scriptural exegesis with scientific perspectives, the study seeks to illuminate the Quranic worldview of creation and its implications for understanding humanity’s place in the universe. |
