| Abstract | Gorakhpur, a historically significant city in Uttar Pradesh, is undergoing a transition toward sustainability through the vision of “Green Gorakhpur.” Situated in the flood-prone Terai region, the city has long-struggled with challenges such as waterlogging, inadequate drainage, rapid urbanization, and increasing climate vulnerability. In response, local authorities, civil society, and international partners have initiated several projects to make the city resilient to waterlogging, poor drainage, inadequate solid waste management, and climate challenges. Although notable progress has been made in enhancing environmental resilience, the city continues to face constraints including limited financial resources, the need for a stronger enforcement of environmental regulations, and the challenge of balancing ecological preservation with accelerating urban development. This paper provides some recently notified cases of environmental projects that ensures the transition of the city to “Green Gorakhpur.” |
