Entrepreneurial Decision-Making in Technology Startups: Balancing Innovation, Risk, and Growth-Oriented Strategy

| Abstract | Entrepreneurial decision-making in technology startups is characterised by high uncertainty, rapid innovation cycles, and significant growth pressures, making strategic judgement a critical determinant of venture success. This paper examines how entrepreneurs balance innovation, risk, and growth-oriented strategy through structured decision-making processes. Using a secondary research approach, the study synthesises literature from entrepreneurship theory, cognitive psychology, technological capability frameworks, startup ecosystems, and AI-driven decision support systems. The analysis highlights that sustainable competitive advantage in technology startups is less dependent on individual decisions or technological novelty and more on the quality, consistency, and scalability of decision architectures. The findings emphasise the role of cognitive biases, ecosystem dependencies, and emerging AI-based decision tools in shaping entrepreneurial judgement. The paper argues that decision-making should be treated as a core organisational capability, supported by analytics maturity, governance mechanisms, and human–AI hybrid models. Strategic implications are discussed for founders, investors, accelerators, and policymakers, along with limitations and directions for future research. |
