Abstract The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a noteworthy initiative by the Government of India aimed at providing direct income support to farmers to ensure economic stability and promote agricultural growth. The PM-KISAN scheme has emerged as a significant intervention aimed at alleviating the economic challenges faced by small and marginal farmers across India (Ghosh et al., 2024). The present study explores the implementation and impact of the PM-KISAN scheme in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. By analyzing qualitative and quantitative data collected from beneficiaries and local authorities, the study evaluates the extent to which the scheme has alleviated financial stress among farmers, improved agricultural productivity, and contributed to rural development. The findings reveal that while the scheme has provided timely financial support, certain challenges such as beneficiary identification, delays in fund disbursement, and lack of awareness about eligibility criteria persist. Furthermore, the study highlights the role of local governance and digital infrastructure in enhancing the efficiency of the program. Insights from this research underscore the need for policy refinements to maximize the impact of PM-KISAN, particularly in districts with diverse agricultural landscapes like Dakshina Kannada. This case study serves as a reference for policymakers and stakeholders in understanding the localized impacts of national welfare schemes and designing strategies for more inclusive and effective implementation.
