Abstract Introduction
First aid is essential for managing burns because it quickly cools the injured region, preventing further tissue damage and limiting the depth and severity of the burn. In the early stages, it makes the patient more comfortable by reducing pain and swelling. By covering the burn with a sterile, clean bandage to keep contaminants out of the wound, immediate treatment also reduces the danger of infection. In addition to preventing consequences like shock, first treatment for burns helps halt the spread of the burn and infection. Early intervention promotes healing, lessens scarring, boosts survival in cases of severe burns, and stops damaging customs. Additionally, it gives the patient psychological comfort and security.
Methodology
A quasi-experimental study was done among 100 high school students undergoing structured teaching program on first aid management of burn injury at selected high school in Patna. Analysis was done through the two-way repeated- measures analysis technique and Chi- square test/ Fishers exact test. Data was collected using self-structured questionnaires. The intervention formulated by researcher and was carried out in 1 day, lasting for 60 minutes.
Result
The post-test knowledge scores showed a statistically significant difference between the control and experimental group (χ2 =56.250, p < 0.001). most participants with the poor score belonged to the control group (78.1%), while all participants with moderate and good scores were exclusively from the experimental group. This clearly indicates that the intervention was effective in enhancing knowledge, as evidenced by the higher scores observed only in the experimental group after Structured Teaching Program.
Conclusion
The findings from current study indicates the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program among high school students regarding first aid management of burn injury. After conducting the research study, it can be concluded that majority (96%) of the high school students have moderate knowledge regarding first aid management of burn injury, while very less (1%) have poor knowledge.
