Abstract Occupational stress among staff nurses is a growing concern worldwide and adversely affects mental health, job satisfaction, and quality of patient care. According to WHO, stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way we respond to stress, however, makes a big difference to our overall well-being.
Progressive Muscle Relaxation Technique is a systematic therapy for managing stress and achieving a deep state of relaxation. that has been effectively used to control stress and anxiety relieve insomnia, and reduce symptoms of the stress. It is an effective and widely used strategy for stress relief. With regular practice, progressive muscle relaxation therapy gives a complete relaxation, Dr. Edmund Jacobson (1930- 1975). PMRT is a simple, non-pharmacological intervention that shown effectiveness in reducing level of stress.
