| Abstract | Background : Patoladi Kwath is a well-known classical Ayurvedic decoction valued for its Pitta-shamaka, Deepana-Pachana, and detoxifying actions. Despite its therapeutic importance, the conventional method of preparation involves lengthy boiling, necessitates immediate consumption, and is unsuitable for long-term storage. Transforming it into a Pravahi (liquid, ready-to-use) dosage form may improve stability, extend shelf-life, enhance palatability, and promote better patient compliance.Aim: To develop and prepare a Pravahi form of Patoladi Kwath by modifying the classical formulation, and to evaluate its pharmaceutico-analytical parameters.Materials and Methods: Patoladi Kwath was prepared in accordance with classical Ayurvedic guidelines using standardized raw materials. The obtained decoction was further processed and suitably modified to develop Pravahi Patoladi Kwath. Both the classical and Pravahi formulations were evaluated through organoleptic and physicochemical analyses, including pH, total solids, specific gravity, refractive index, viscosity, density, total acidity, alcohol percentage, ethanol and methanol content, as well as reducing and non-reducing sugars. Standard analytical methods were employed to assess and compare the quality parameters of both formulations. Results: Pravahi Patoladi Kwath exhibited improved stability and uniformity when compared to the classical Kwath. The formulation possessed acceptable organoleptic features and physicochemical parameters within permissible limits. Evaluation of organoleptic and physicochemical profiles revealed results comparable to those of classical Patoladi Kwath, thereby confirming the authenticity and quality of the modified formulation. Conclusion: The present study successfully developed a stable and user-friendly Pravahi form of Patoladi Kwath. Pravahi Patoladi Kwath provides enhanced shelf-life, convenient administration, and the potential for improved patient compliance. Further research may be undertaken to evaluate its clinical efficacy and long-term stability under extended storage conditions. |
