| Abstract | Cinema is most significant type of popular entertainment in India. It is said that film are the reflection of particular society and social problems. But sometimes films replicate the only dominant ideology of the people in power. The replication can be very biased and dominated by the political scenario and hegemony of power. The present study indicates that some movies introducing Hindus as heroes who are smart, loyal, brave, diligent and dedicated to their motherland and Mughal Muslims as violent, cruel and irrational, certain Bollywood movies have provided a significant contrast between the two groups. In the films based on communal history and other popular cultural contexts, Muslims are often stereotyped as "others "(e.g.,debauch nawabs, villains or terrorists), reflecting and rain forcing dominant societal notions and the majoritarian political atmosphere. This paper aims to investigate the portrayals of Hindu -Muslim relationships in recent Bollywood movies with a specific emphasis on some selected movies i.e. the Padmaavat ,Tanhaji,The Kerala story' and The Kashmir files. In these films Hindu-Muslim relations often appear in binaries victim/ perpetrated or patriot /enemy. Since last decade Hindi cinema has undergone a significant ideological and aesthetic transformation, reflecting the changing political and cultural climate of contemporary India. The study explores how cinema negotiates ideas of identity, nationalism, communal memory and cultural citizenship, and how cinematic production intersects with the broader sociopolitical discourses. This research is mainly conducted using secondary sources including news articles ,blogs and journal articles . |
