Abstract This study examines at how urbanization
shapes the growth of smart cities in the Philippines, with a
focus on Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. It analyzes trends
in population growth, land use, and infrastructure, and
explores how these factors relate to key aspects of smart cities
such as governance, infrastructure, environment, economy,
and quality of life. The research uses a quantitative-
descriptive approach, collecting data through surveys and
existing urban development indicators. Descriptive statistics,
correlation, and regression analyses were used to see how
urbanization factors predict smart city outcomes. The results
show a strong positive link between urbanization and the
progress of smart city features, suggesting that effective
urbanization leads to better governance, sustainable
infrastructure, environmental resilience, economic growth,
improved quality of life in cities and overall urban livability.
Ultimately, this study adds to the knowledge on urban
development and smart cities by providing data-driven
insights. These findings can help urban planners,
policymakers, and local governments create more inclusive,
resilient, and technologically advanced cities that support UN
