Nutritional Challenges and Health Vulnerabilities Among Women Across the Life Course: A Multidisciplinary Perspective

Author(s) Ms. Iqra Fatima
Country India
Abstract Women’s nutritional status critically influences health across the life course. Despite global progress, women remain vulnerable to deficiencies and health risks due to biological demands, social determinants, and gender inequities. Using Life Course Theory and the Social Determinants of Health framework, this review examines major nutritional challenges at different life stages, drawing on literature, global reports, and Indian research. Key issues include anemia, micronutrient deficiencies, rising non‑communicable diseases, and mental health concerns, worsened in India by sociocultural norms, economic disparities, and limited healthcare access. Life course–based, gender‑sensitive, and community‑oriented interventions, alongside strengthened public health systems and social work integration, are essential to improve women’s health outcomes.
