Abstract The global automobile sector is undergoing a transition from conventional fuel-based vehicles to electric mobility as part of the broader movement towards sustainable development. However, consumer acceptance continues to determine the pace and success of this shift. This study, titled “Understanding Consumer Opinions on Electric Vehicles Versus Conventional Automobiles: A Study in Southern Rajasthan”, seeks to examine and compare consumer perceptions regarding both vehicle types within a regional context.
The research is based on primary data collected from 245 respondents across Southern Rajasthan through a structured questionnaire. The sample included individuals from diverse socio-economic and occupational backgrounds, such as students, professionals, businesspersons, and homemakers. A descriptive research design was adopted, and data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools to highlight comparative insights.
The findings indicate that consumers are highly conscious of the environmental gains linked to electric vehicles, and social influences play a notable part in shaping their opinions. However, the steep cost of purchase, limited charging availability, and continuing doubts regarding performance and maintenance push many buyers towards conventional cars. Younger participants demonstrated greater enthusiasm for electric transport, whereas older individuals preferred traditional vehicles for their dependability and ease.
The conclusion points to the potential of electric mobility but stresses that major improvements in cost, maintenance, and infrastructure are crucial to gain consumer trust and spread adoption across Southern Rajasthan.
