| Abstract | Subject services are a vital component of university libraries, supporting teaching, learning, and research through discipline-specific information support. In the rapidly evolving academic environment of India, university libraries face challenges such as diverse user needs, growth of digital resources, limited manpower, and budget constraints, which demand optimized service strategies. This study explores existing subject services in university libraries of India and examines the strategies adopted to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency. Using a descriptive research design, data are collected from librarians and users through questionnaires, interviews, and analysis of library practices. The study identifies key optimization approaches, including user-centered service design, integration of information and communication technologies, continuous professional development of library staff, and collaborative engagement with faculty members. The findings highlight significant gaps in planning and evaluation mechanisms and propose a strategic framework to improve the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of subject services in Indian university libraries. |
