| Abstract | Barter trade is considered to be a vital factor for socio-economic development especially among the Nyishi people and has tremendous impacts on overriding economic and social factors. Besides economic development, it also acts as an active agent of social changes in the Nyishi society. The present study reveals that there is less change in demography, culture, education and public health due to the barter trade with Tibet in Nysihi society of Arunachal Pradesh. However, barter trade with Tibet has significant impact on income, employment generation, possession of consumer durables and standard of living among the Nyishis. It is found that the impact of barter trade is much significant on economic variables in the study area. With this background, the present study makes an attempt to analyze the impact of barter trade on major socio-economic factors in the Nyishi society of Kurung Kumey district, Arunachal Pradesh. |
