Glycol mediated synthesis of Green Rust, its Delamination and Solvothermal Decomposition of the resulting colloidal dispersion to form monodispersed γ-Fe2O3 Nanoparticles

| Abstract | Hydroxychloride green rust was synthesized by urea hydrolysis of ferric chloride in ethylene glycol. The chloride ions of green rust were then exchanged with the surfactant anion, dodecylsulphate (DS). Surfactant-intercalated green rust (GRDS) delaminated in 1,2-propanediol to give a stable colloidal dispersion of monolayers. Solvothermal decomposition of the colloidal dispersion resulted in monodispersed, single crystalline meghamite, γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles of ~10 nm diameter. |
