| Abstract | Training and development have become increasingly critical in contemporary business environments, particularly within the hospitality and hotel industry, where employee performance directly influences service quality and organizational success. As the hospitality sector has experienced significant operational fluctuations and competitive pressures, the need for systematic training, effective performance assessment, and continuous skill development has gained prominence. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of training and development in enhancing employee performance, satisfaction, and retention within the hospitality industry, with particular emphasis on insights drawn from the Indian context through a structured review of existing literature. This review synthesizes empirical and conceptual studies published between 2015 and 2025, drawing from peer-reviewed academic sources, and incorporates analytical tools such as the ABCD framework to evaluate the advantages, benefits, challenges, and disadvantages of training and development practices. The findings indicate that well-designed and context-specific training programs are essential for achieving consistent service standards, improving employee engagement, and sustaining organizational performance in hospitality settings. Despite the availability of prior research, notable gaps remain regarding long-term training outcomes, digital learning integration, and workforce diversity considerations. The study offers practical insights for hospitality managers and researchers by highlighting key areas that require further investigation and strategic focus, thereby contributing to a clearer understanding of training and development as a vital human resource practice in the hospitality industry. |
