Abstract ABSTRACT
Introduction: Adenoid hypertrophy is a common pediatric condition affecting up to 34.5% of children, presenting with nasal obstruction, mouth breathing, snoring, and potential complications such as obstructive sleep apnea and growth impairment. Conventional treatments have limited efficacy and carry surgical or long-term adverse risks. In Ayurveda, this condition correlates with Kantha Shaluka, caused by Kapha-avruta Vata, where management focuses on Vata Anulomana and Kapha Chedana. Due to limited standardised research, this clinical study is carried out to evaluate Shunthyadi Churna and Kalingadi Taila Pratimarsha Nasya as an alternative therapeutic approach. Methods: The study is an open-label randomised clinical trial, which will be carried out at the tertiary ayurveda hospital, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute of Ayurveda and Hospital, Bengaluru, recruiting 34 children into 2 groups with Kantha shaluka. Group A will be administered Shunthyadi churna at age specific dose with Kalingadi taila Pratimarsha Nasya. The control group will be receiving standard conservative management for Adenoids for 28days. Results: Data will be collected using a specially designed Case Report Form (CRF) with standardised assessment scales and analysed using MS Excel and SPSS version 26. The overall reduction in signs and symptoms of adenoids will be statistically analysed using symptomatic grading and the OSA-18 quality of life survey. The results will be kept confidential and disseminated through peer-reviewed journal publications. Discussion: This study aims to support a ayurveda approach to managing Kantha Shaluka in children. Due to limited and non-standardised Ayurvedic research, this study seeks to bridge the research gap by evaluating Shunthyadi Churna with Kalingadi Taila Pratimarsha Nasya. These classical formulations, indicated for Nasagata and Kanthagata Roga, possess properties such as Kanthya, Kaphahara, Shrotoshodhana, Agnideepana, Krimihara, Lekhana, and Shothahara, supporting their therapeutic efficacy.
