| Abstract | The objective of this study is to assess(evaluate) the factors and impacts of firewood use in the city of Kenge. Analytical, quantitative and statistical methods were used survey. Interview, observation and non-probability sampling techniques were also employed. The surveys revealed that the factors driving the use of firewood include lack of electricity, availability and ease of access to this material, lower cost and increasing demand. These factors lead to consequences such as degradation of basic ecosystems wood shortages, rising prices and the increasing distance to collection sites. The reduce human pressure on the environment through uncontrolled wood harvesting, regulations on firewood cutting must be enforced, reforestation and the use of ecological charcoal production technique must be adopted, alternative must be introduced to mitigate the threat to wood-energy substrates and tree resources must be managed that is, through the management of fallow land and degraded forest, plantations and agroforestry. |
