| Abstract | Background: Physiotherapy and social work share common goals of enhancing functional independence, social participation, and quality of life among individuals and communities. However, limited scholarly attention has been given to their integrated role in community-based and social rehabilitation settings. Objective: This narrative review aims to explore how physiotherapy interventions influence social work outcomes, particularly in relation to community rehabilitation, psychosocial well-being, social inclusion, and empowerment of vulnerable populations. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across major electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies published between 2010 and 2025. Keywords related to physiotherapy, social work, community health, and rehabilitation were used. Relevant original research articles, review papers, and policy documents were analyzed and synthesized thematically. Results: The findings indicate that physiotherapy interventions significantly contribute to improved mobility, self-care abilities, and functional independence, thereby reducing social dependency and caregiver burden. Enhanced physical functioning was associated with increased participation in social, vocational, and community activities. Furthermore, collaborative practices between physiotherapists and social workers were found to strengthen rehabilitation outcomes, promote client-centered care, and facilitate sustainable community reintegration. Conclusion: Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in supporting social work objectives by addressing physical limitations that hinder social participation and empowerment. Integrating physiotherapy into social welfare and community development programs can enhance holistic rehabilitation outcomes. Policymakers and practitioners should encourage interdisciplinary models to improve accessibility, inclusivity, and long-term social well-being. |
