Challenges Faced by Rural Population of Uttarakhand in Adapting and Making Digital Payments

| Abstract | Digital payments have transformed financial transactions in India, particularly after the 2016 demonetization and the spread of Unified Payments Interface (UPI). While urban areas have quickly adopted these technologies, rural regions like Uttarakhand lag due to infrastructural, educational, and socio-economic barriers. This study investigates the challenges that the rural population of Uttarakhand faces in adapting to digital payment systems. Based on a primary survey of 400 respondents from six districts, the research identifies key issues: limited digital literacy, infrastructure deficits (internet and electricity), trust and security concerns, and financial inclusion gaps. |
