An Analytical Study of Cybercrime and Its Impact on Social Awareness

Author(s) Dr. Sheeja Varkey
Country India
Abstract The rapid growth of digital technologies has led to an increasing dependence on internet-based services, resulting in a significant rise in cybercrime. Cybercrime includes various illegal activities such as online fraud, identity theft, hacking, phishing, and ransomware attacks, which are often complex and transnational in nature. In India, the expansion of digital banking, e-commerce, and social media has contributed to the growing incidence of cyber offences. Although the Information Technology Act, 2000, provides a legal framework to address cybercrime, evolving cyber threats require continuous legal updates, improved digital forensics, and stronger cybersecurity measures. A collaborative approach involving government agencies, law enforcement, private organisations, and citizens is essential to ensure a secure digital environment.
