Abstract The interpretation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, combined with the direction provided by University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, represents a major step in reordering the educational landscape of India. NEP 2020 endorses a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach which draws on ethos and tradition, gives due attention to context and the use of mother tongue as a medium for instruction.
