Abstract The development of high-performance racing car pistons is a complex and precision-intensive process that lies at the intersection of modern manufacturing technologies and advanced mechanical engineering. This article delves into the methods used to manufacture such pistons, placing particular emphasis on five-axis computer numerical control (CNC) milling-an advanced technique that offers substantial improvements over traditional approaches. Unlike conventional three-axis machines, which are limited in their range of motion and flexibility, five-axis CNC milling allows simultaneous movement along five different axes. This makes it possible to machine highly intricate geometries, deep undercuts, compound curves, and asymmetrical features-critical elements in racing pistons where airflow dynamics, combustion efficiency, and thermal behavior must be tightly controlled.
