| Abstract | This study aimed to develop and validate the Human Resource Emotional Labor Scale (HRELS), a psychometric instrument designed to measure emotional labor among human resource (HR) professionals. Guided by Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, the study conceptualizes emotional labor as the regulation of emotional resources required to meet organizational expectations while managing complex interpersonal interactions. The scale development process followed established psychometric procedures, including item generation, expert review, and statistical validation. Initial items were derived from relevant literature on emotional labor and HR professional roles. Empirical testing was conducted to examine the factor structure, reliability, and construct validity of the scale. The results yielded a 13-item instrument with three dimensions: Emotional Demands, Emotional Regulation Strategies, and Emotional Labor Outcomes. Findings demonstrate satisfactory psychometric properties, indicating that the HRELS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing emotional labor in HR contexts. The scale contributes to the growing literature on emotional labor by providing a domain-specific measure tailored to the unique experiences of HR professionals. Practically, the instrument can support organizations in assessing emotional strain within HR functions, informing interventions aimed at improving employee well-being and organizational effectiveness. |
