Deepfakes And Digital Deception: A Study of India’s Legal Preparedness

Author(s) Mr. Ritik Srivastava
Country India
Abstract The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and digital media technologies has led to the emergence of digital deception and deepfakes, a form of synthetic media capable of convincingly manipulating images, videos and audio. While this technology has beneficial applications in entertainment, education and digital content creation, it also poses significant risks in the form of misinformation, identity theft, reputational damage and political manipulation. This paper examines the concept of deepfakes and digital deception from the Indian perspective and evaluates the extent to which the existing legal framework is prepared to address these emerging challenges.
