The Creator Economy and Economic Disparities: Assessing How Influencer Platforms Reshape Consumption Patterns and Income Inequality in the Digital Age

Author(s) Ms. Aadhya Shakti

Abstract This study examines how algorithm-driven influencer platforms shape income distribution and consumption behaviour in the creator economy. It finds that engagement-based algorithms concentrate visibility and earnings among a small group of top creators, while influencer-led marketing, driven by social proof and parasocial relationships, influences consumer purchasing decisions. These mechanisms collectively reinforce economic inequality, making disparities an inherent feature of platform design. The study highlights the need for greater transparency and fair monetisation practices to support a more equitable digital ecosystem.
