| Abstract | The current study examined the relationship between anxiety and emotional Dysfunctions among surgery related bed-admitted patients using a quantitative, cross-sectional, comparative research approach․ To conduct the study, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7) and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) were used among 200 hospitalized patients (age range: above 10 years) in Chennai, India․ The study findings using descriptive statistics showed a high level of anxiety among the patients, with a mean anxiety score of 11․70 (SD=2․900) and a high level of emotional problems, with a mean emotional problems score of 38․23 (SD=4․060)․ There was no correlation between anxiety and emotional problems, as r=0․002, p=0․974․ The null hypothesis was accepted, which showed there is no relationship between anxiety and emotional problems among the patients․ The findings also emphasized the importance of considering many psychological factors independently in hospital settings․ The study has some limitations, as it only focused on a specific region and a small number of patients․ Future study can be conducted on different patient groups, as well as other psychosocial factors, which include coping styles and social support․ |
