A Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Towards Artificial Intelligence among College Students in a Selected College in Kozhikode

Abstract The present study was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude towards artificial intelligence among college students in a selected college in Kozhikode. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge and attitude of college students towards the artificial intelligence, to identify the relationship between knowledge and attitude of college students towards artificial intelligence, to find the association of knowledge and attitude towards artificial intelligence with socio demographic variables of college students. A non-experimental descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The sample for this study comprised of 60 students, who satisfied the inclusion criteria. The tools developed and used for the data collection were a structured knowledge questionnaire to assess the knowledge on artificial intelligence and The General Attitudes towards Artificial Intelligence Scale was used to assess the attitude of college students toward Artificial Intelligence. The collected data was organized and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that 35% of participates had high level of knowledge, 33.3% of them had moderate level of knowledge and 31.7% had low level of knowledge regarding artificial intelligence. The study result showed that 1.7% of students had positive attitude, 96.7%of students had neutral attitude and 1.7% of students had negative attitude towards artificial intelligence. The study finding shows that there is no significant association of knowledge on artificial intelligence with attitude of students (p>0.05). There was a very weak positive correlation between knowledge and attitude towards artificial intelligence among college students. Overall, the study revealed that most students had neutral attitudes towards artificial intelligence, despite varying levels of knowledge. This indicates the need for educational initiatives to improve both awareness and perception of AI among college students.
