Abstract Systemic drugs prescribed for chronic medical conditions significantly influence oral tissues and physiological functions that are fundamental to successful prosthodontic treatment. With increasing life expectancy and improved disease management, prosthodontists frequently encounter elderly and medically compromised patients receiving long-term pharmacotherapy and polypharmacy (1). Drug-induced alterations such as xerostomia, mucosal fragility, impaired neuromuscular coordination, altered bone metabolism, and increased bleeding tendencies may adversely affect denture retention, prosthesis stability, tissue tolerance, implant osseointegration, and long-term maintenance of prosthodontic restorations (2,3). An understanding of these effects enables prosthodontists to modify treatment planning, prosthesis design, material selection, and recall protocols to improve functional outcomes and patient comfort (4).
