Issues & Challenges of Inclusive Education in Rural India

| Abstract | Inclusive education in rural India has emerged as a vital pillar in the country’s efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasizes equitable and quality education for all. Despite this commitment, persistent disparities in access, infrastructure, resources, and effective policy implementation continue to impede progress in rural regions. The researcher aims to examine the major challenges in implementing inclusive education in rural India and to explore strategies for improving educational access for all learners, especially children with disabilities. The study adopts a qualitative documentary research method and is based on secondary data collected from books, journals, and research articles. The findings of the study reveal that inclusive education in rural areas faces several barriers such as lack of trained teachers, inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and low awareness among parents and communities. Although various policies and initiatives exist, their effective implementation remains a challenge. The study suggests that strengthening teacher training, improving infrastructure, and enhancing community participation are essential for the successful implementation of inclusive education. |
