Abstract This research paper explores the artistic heritage of West Bengal, focusing on the terracotta masterpieces of Bishnupur temples. Bishnupur, renowned for its exquisite terracotta temples built between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, showcases a unique blend of artistic and cultural influences. The study examines the historical significance, artistic techniques, and cultural narratives depicted in these terracotta works. It highlights the intricate craftsmanship and symbolic meanings embedded in the terracotta plaques, which illustrate stories from Hindu epics and daily life. Additionally, the paper addresses the challenges in preserving this heritage, including the lack of comprehensive excavation reports, limited access to unearthed materials, and the need for interdisciplinary approaches to fully understand the socio-cultural context of these artifacts. By delving into the continuity and evolution of terracotta art, the research underscores the importance of preserving and studying these masterpieces to appreciate their contribution to West Bengal's cultural legacy and their role in enriching India's artistic heritage.
