Abstract The digital evolution of spiritual tourism in India marks a transformative convergence of ancient pilgrimage traditions with modern technologies, reshaping motivations, experiences and management practices across the sector This comprehensive synthesis, based on 247 scholarly sources and three empirical case studies, highlights key trends such as youth-driven experiential shifts, digital mediation of sacred experiences through social media and technological innovations including virtual and augmented reality, mobile applications and AI-powered systems. The study examines socio-cultural implications, including changes in ritual practices, economic restructuring, cultural identity and challenges related to authenticity, digital equity, sustainability and data governance. Case studies of Varanasi, Maha Kumbh Mela, and Himachal Pradesh illustrate practical applications and limitations of digital integration.
