Abstract Road safety has become a major global concern due to the increasing number of accidents caused by alcohol-impaired driving. Driving under the influence significantly reduces a driver’s reaction time, decision-making ability, and overall vehicle control, leading to a high risk of fatal accidents. This paper presents an Alcohol Detection and Monitoring System with Engine Locking mechanism designed to prevent such incidents. The system uses an alcohol sensor to detect the presence of alcohol in the driver’s breath and a microcontroller to process the data. If the detected alcohol level exceeds a predefined threshold, the system automatically disables the vehicle ignition, preventing the engine from starting. Additionally, the system can provide alerts and monitoring features to enhance safety. The proposed solution is cost-effective, reliable, and suitable for real-time implementation in modern vehicles.
