Abstract Accurate flight trajectory prediction in non-towered general aviation environments is a challenging task due to the absence of structured control, high variability in pilot behavior, and limited contextual data. This paper proposes DiffTrajAI, a novel two-stage, goal-oriented diffusion-based framework designed to address these challenges by effectively modeling both intention and motion diversity. In the first stage, the model predicts multiple plausible flight goals using historical trajectory patterns and interaction-aware context, capturing the macro-level intent of aircraft movement. In the second stage, a diffusion-based generative process refines these goals into realistic and diverse trajectory predictions, ensuring micro-level motion consistency. The proposed approach improves prediction accuracy and robustness compared to conventional methods by handling multimodal distributions and uncertainty in flight behavior. DiffTrajAI demonstrates strong potential for enhancing safety, situational awareness, and decision support in non-towered airspace operations.
