Abstract The increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs), particularly rooftop solar, and the rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) are transforming the operational dynamics of power distribution networks. These emerging loads and generation sources introduce significant spatial and temporal variability, posing new challenges for conventional grid planning and operation.
This research focuses on a detailed analysis of the distribution network to identify suitable and high-potential areas for renewable energy integration, with a primary emphasis on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. By developing high-resolution, building-level load profiles and assessing network constraints, the study evaluates the maximum hosting capacity of the grid for solar integration without compromising system reliability. In parallel, the study investigates the integration of EV charging infrastructure by identifying optimal locations and estimating their impact on the distribution network. This includes assessing feeder and transformer loading, peak demand implications, and potential congestion points.
Overall, the research aims to support data-driven, spatially resolved planning of distribution systems, enabling utilities to efficiently integrate renewable energy and EV loads while maintaining grid stability and performance.
