Author(s) Dr. Babita Negi
Country India
Abstract India, as a megadiverse country, faces serious threats to wildlife from poaching, trafficking, and habitat loss. This paper examines the role of forensic science in wildlife crime investigations, focusing on techniques such as DNA analysis, toxicology, isotope analysis, and morphological identification. It highlights key challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited expertise, weak legal support, and poor inter-agency coordination. The study also notes recent progress in the use of forensic evidence for securing convictions. It argues that integrating scientific methods with legal processes is crucial for effective wildlife protection and concludes by recommending capacity building, technological advancement, and policy reforms.
