Environmental Issues in India: Challenges, Impacts and Sustainable Solutions

Abstract The environment is very significant in sustaining life on the earth since it provides people with fundamental needs such as air, water, food, and shelter. Nevertheless, in developing countries, especially in India, rapid industrialization, demographic growth, and unsustainable human activity because of them, the serious environmental degradation. Some of the major environmental issues addressed in this essay include climate change, population growth, deforestation, pollution, waste management, water shortage, the loss of biodiversity, plastic consumption, poverty, and other critical challenges. It also highlights the interconnection between economic growth and environmental sustainability, emphasizing the urgency of environmental awareness, policy, and group action. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events and depletion of natural resources further intensify the vulnerability of both rural and urban communities. This paper analyzes the key environmental challenges in India, examines their socio-economic and ecological impacts, and explores sustainable solutions such as renewable energy adoption, conservation practices, policy interventions, and community participation.
