Leveraging Design Thinking Strategy to Enhance Application Skills in History: Bridging Knowledge and Real-World Problem Solving Among Class VIII Students at Lamgong Higher Secondary School.

| Abstract | This action research was conducted in Lamgong Higher Secondary School in Paro, particularly for class VIII B students in History classes. It was done with the action research question, “How does the integration of a Design Thinking strategy impact Class VIII students’ ability to apply historical knowledge to real-world problems at Lamgong Higher Secondary School?” The school has encountered the issue of low application skills, resulting in cases of low academic performance and the application of historical knowledge in real-world problem-solving. The purpose of this action research is to enhance application skills in the history subject by bridging knowledge and real-world problem-solving skills among Class VIII Students by leveraging the Design Thinking strategy in teaching the history lesson. The intervention for this educational action research was done with a descriptive research design with a focus on the constructivist research paradigm to help students construct their knowledge from classroom learning in the history subject. It engaged mix method research methodology and used data from class tests, survey questionnaires, and participants’ feedback on the intervention programs. Stratified and voluntary sampling methods were deployed for the collection of data from the student-participants. Through this action research, the implementation of the DT strategy in the history lesson has witnessed radical improvement in the application skills of the students. Thus, this action research definitely proved that the DT strategy the effective method for learning history lessons to improve the application skills of the students to solve real-world problems. |
