Abstract Infants can lose hearing from a virus called cytomegalovirus they get before birth. When mothers catch it early in pregnancy, the harm to the baby tends to be worse. This story follows one newborn whose mom tested positive for that infection in her first months of pregnancy. Care came together between doctors who handle pregnancies and those focused on hearing at a clinic in Jodhpur, India. By carefully watching responses and testing inner ear function, signs pointed clearly to deep hearing damage in both ears within three weeks after birth. Later on, treatment combined antiviral drugs with prompt hearing support before checking if a cochlear implant made sense. Results showed that quick virus testing, close hearing checks, and fast action plans matter most for vulnerable cCMV patients.Infants can lose hearing from a virus called cytomegalovirus they get before birth.
