Abstract Electrical resistance and sulphate attack resistance are the most important indicators for defining the durable performance of masonry mortars. The present investigation deals with the electrical resistivity and sulphate resistance behavior of binary blended mortars which are made with partial replacements of Portland Cement (PC) with various industrial by-products. Fly ash (FA), Coal Bottom Ash (CBA), Ground Granulated Blast Slag (GGBS), Copper Slag (CS) and Silica Fume (SF) are the readily and most abundant by-products which are generated from coal, slag, copper and silicon industry in India respectively. These by-products are successfully considered as an alternate material for replacement of PC in masonry mortars up to specific levels due to their inherent pozzolanic nature. The current investigation presents the results of electrical resistivity and sulphate attack tests conducted to examine the resistance behavior of binary masonry mortars made with aforementioned by-products. The binary mortar mixes were made by systematically replacing PC by FA/CBA/GGBS/CS/SF up to 0-30% respectively. Usage of aforesaid by-products up to specified amount as an alternate of PC in masonry mortars not only enhances the durability concern but also actuates the economy, energy effectiveness along with ecological and environment welfare.
