Professional Ethics among Student-Teachers in Relation to Personal Values and Institutional Climate

Abstract Education plays an important role in the development of society and teachers are considered as an important part of the educational system. A teacher is expected to maintain professional ethics, positive values and responsible behaviour in the teaching profession. The present study was conducted to study professional ethics among student-teachers in relation to personal values and institutional climate. Descriptive survey method was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 400 student-teachers selected from different government and private teacher education colleges of Indore district through random sampling technique. The tools used in the study were Professional Ethics Perception Scale for Student-Teachers (PEPSST), Teacher Education Institution Climate Scale (TEICS) and Personal Value Questionnaire (PVQ). The collected data were analysed with the help of mean, standard deviation, correlation and t-test. The findings of the study indicated that there was no significant relationship between professional ethics, personal values and institutional climate among student-teachers. The study also highlighted the importance of ethics and value-based teacher education for the development of responsible future teachers. The study may be useful for teacher educators and educational institutions in improving the quality of teacher education programmes.
