Abstract This research paper examines the concept of "invisible chains" as a metaphor for neo-slavery and the exploitation of migrant labor forces in the Gulf region, with a particular focus on its literary representation in Deepak Unnikrishnan's book Temporary People. This study asserts that labor migration often leads to conditions of precarity, invisibility, and systemic exploitation, even though it is often depicted as beneficial to the economy. Finding out how migrant workers face structural inequities is the driving force for this study. The research takes a multi-faceted and qualitative method, integrating literary analysis with socio-economic and political viewpoints. The research delves into the real-life struggles of migrant workers, shedding insight on the novel's depiction of identity crises and the mental toll that migration can take, rather than focusing solely on legal frameworks. The article contends that exploitation happens via both overt and covert means, such as established institutions and societal norms that see migrants as "temporary" and hence expendable. The study's results back up this claim and imply that fixing migrant exploitation needs tackling deeper issues like power dynamics, representation, and identity rather than just changing the law.
