| Abstract | Tourism has emerged as one of the significant cotributors to regional economic growth and sustainable development across the world. In India, tourism not only promotes cultural heritage but also creates employment opportunities, improves infrastructure, and enhances the standard of living of local communities. Bihar, known for its historical, cultural, and religious importance, possesses enormous tourism potential. Among the districts of Bihar, Darbhanga occupies a special place due to its rich Mithila culture, religious sites, historical heritage, festivals, and traditional art forms. However, despite possessing substantial tourism resources, the region has not achieved its expected tourism growth because of inadequate tourism infrastructure and limited developmental initiatives. The present conceptual study examines the role of tourism infrastructure development in promoting regional economic growth in the Darbhanga region of Bihar. The paper focuses on understanding the significance of transportation, accommodation, communication, sanitation, and hospitality infrastructure in attracting tourists and enhancing tourism activities. It also explores how tourism infrastructure contributes to employment generation, local business development, income creation, and socio-economic upliftment. The study further analyzes the role of government initiatives and tourism policies in strengthening tourism development in Bihar. Secondary data from journals, government reports, books, tourism policy documents, and research studies have been used to understand the relationship between tourism infrastructure and regional economic development. The study concludes that tourism infrastructure development plays a crucial role in enhancing tourist satisfaction, increasing tourist inflow, generating employment, and improving regional economic conditions. Proper planning, investment, public-private partnerships, and sustainable tourism policies are essential for transforming Darbhanga into a major tourism destination in Bihar. |
