Challenges and Opportunities in Early Literacy Instruction Under the K To 3 Matatag Curriculum

Author(s) Jancel T Nacario
Country Philippines
Abstract Early literacy development is a fundamental component of children’s cognitive, linguistic, and academic growth, making it a critical focus of early childhood education. In response to persistent literacy challenges among Filipino learners, the Department of Education introduced the K to 3 MATATAG Curriculum to strengthen foundational learning through developmentally appropriate and child-centered instruction. However, despite its intended reforms, the successful implementation of the curriculum remains dependent on teachers’ instructional practices, resource availability, and the realities of classroom instruction.
