Abstract Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is widely used as a comprehensive framework for evaluating production performance through the dimensions of availability, performance, and quality. In this study, OEE was employed as the main analytical approach to identify the factors leading to capacity constraints in billet furnaces and the resulting production losses. The analysis focused on determining the causes of the bottleneck observed in the casting process and supporting structured decision-making for performance improvement.
The study was conducted in the melting and billet formation processes of the casting plant and covered the first half of 2025. Within this scope, parameters influencing furnace capacity and production output were identified and systematically incorporated into the availability, performance, and quality components of OEE. Monthly production data were used to quantitatively assess billet furnace effectiveness and to determine efficiency losses throughout the casting process.
OEE was adopted as an analytical framework guiding productivity and sustainability oriented improvement efforts and was not used solely as a performance measurement tool. Although OEE does not directly eliminate the root causes of inefficiencies, it effectively identifies loss-intensive areas and provides direction for further analysis. Accordingly, the integration of OEE with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods is emphasized as essential for achieving sustainable capacity utilization and performance improvement in casting operations.
