Abstract	Padma Venkatraman’s A Time to Dance traces the power of art in transmuting the life of a young girl, Veda who loses her limb in an accident. The paper focuses on the transformative power of art that changes the lives of people especially people with disabilities. The art paves way to disabled people to express themselves and showcase their talents. Veda being tormented by the societal pressures finds solace in the lap of art she loved. The unwavering passion and dedication enchanted Veda to embrace Bharatanatyam after becoming an amputee. When Veda was left alone on the verge of frustration and despair, art assists her to regain strength. Art heals her and forces to bounce back with a resilient spirit. The transformation from a disabled dancer to an accomplished dance teacher is presented in elaborate way. The paper also highlights societal hurdles faced by the disabled people through the lens of ableism, social model of disability, and critical disability theory.
