| Abstract | Background: The weakness of the pelvic floor muscles is commonly found in women with problems such as pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. It is a very important factor affecting quality of life but many women still remain ignorant of this disease and its treatment. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate women's knowledge of pelvic floor muscle weakness, to find out common misconceptions and awareness of pelvic floor muscle training. Methodology: A quantitative survey was conducted among one hundred women above the age of eighteen in Greater Noida using a questionnaire modified from the study of Neels et al. Results: The results of the study show that there is still a lack of knowledge about pelvic floor muscle weakness and its treatment. This indicated that awareness was generally low, especially among younger women. Conclusion: Many people had little knowledge of pelvic floor health and thought bladder leaks were normal. Fewer than half of them knew about PFMT but many of the women were interested in learning more about PFMT. This highlights the need for educational and awareness interventions within the community, hospitals and educational settings for early detection and intervention. |
