| Abstract | Nanotechnology, which comes from the Greek word "nanos" meaning dwarf, involves manipulating materials at the nano-meter scale (1–100 nm). This scale is about 1/80,000 the diameter of a human hair. Its use in medicine, especially for cancer diagnosis and treatment, has become a significant breakthrough. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and presents major treatment challenges due to the limitations of traditional therapies like chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. Nanotechnology provides solutions through targeted drug delivery, better imaging, and fewer side effects by using nanoparticles such as liposomes, dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, and gold nanoparticles. These nanocarriers can enhance drug solubility, stability, and bioavailability while reducing harm to healthy tissue. Various types of cancer, including breast, prostate, gastric, pancreatic, oral, and ovarian cancers, have shown positive responses to treatments based on nanotechnology. Both organic and inorganic nanomaterials, including quantum dots and polymeric nanoparticles, are utilized to improve therapy results. Nanoparticles also help with early cancer diagnosis by identifying molecular and cellular changes. Additionally, nanotechnology assists in overcoming drug resistance and supports combination therapies like chemoradiotherapy. Overall, nanotechnology has great potential to change cancer care with precise, efficient, and less invasive treatment methods. |
