| Abstract | Medical education has undergone remarkable transformation in recent decades due to rapid advancements in medical science, technological innovations, competency-based curricula, and evolving healthcare needs. In this changing educational environment, faculty members play a pivotal role in shaping the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and professional values of future healthcare professionals. Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) have therefore emerged as essential components of modern medical education, aiming to enhance the teaching competencies, research capabilities, leadership qualities, assessment skills, and professional growth of medical educators. Faculty Development Programs encompass a wide range of educational activities including workshops, seminars, training sessions, continuing medical education programs, curriculum planning exercises, assessment training, educational technology orientation, research methodology workshops, communication skill development, and leadership training. These programs help teachers adapt to innovative teaching-learning methodologies, competency-based medical education, digital learning platforms, and modern assessment systems. Effective faculty development contributes significantly to improvement in teaching quality, student engagement, curriculum implementation, academic leadership, and institutional excellence. It promotes reflective teaching practices, encourages educational scholarship, and strengthens professional competency among faculty members. FDPs also facilitate integration of educational technology, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based teaching strategies in medical institutions. Despite their immense educational value, faculty development initiatives face challenges such as lack of time, limited financial resources, inadequate institutional support, faculty resistance, and difficulties in assessing long-term outcomes. Continuous motivation, administrative support, and structured implementation strategies are therefore essential for successful faculty development. The present article discusses the importance, objectives, advantages, challenges, and future perspectives of Faculty Development Programs in medical education and highlights their vital role in improving the quality of healthcare education and patient care. |
